Around the year 2000, I set out to work with high-risk youth. I sought opportunities in varied settings to gain a broad perspective of the challenges facing kids today.
Early in my teaching career I was staffed in a technology magnet school. I witnessed first-hand the change in my student's attitudes and achievement levels as I integrated technology into my instructional activities. Using various technological tools, I was able to provide new ways of delivering content and gather data to demonstrate the academic gains made by students. My approach to instructional delivery was forever changed, and I was on my way to becoming an effective teacher for emerging generations of students. I attended trainings and sought employment opportunities to continue learning about the field of educational technology. In September 2009, I earned a Masters of Arts in Educational Technology from San Diego State University. My goal is to work in a leadership position involving education and technology.
Currently, I am a teacher for high-risk students attending an alternative high school in Watsonville, California. I am also the school's Head Teacher and Technology Liaison to the district. I also work as a graduate assistant to Dr. Bernie Dodge at San Diego State University, participate in district and state-wide math curriculum efforts, facilitate technology trainings, and develop web-based productivity resources for my school and the district's math department.
In my spare time you can find me spending time with my amazing
nine-year-old son, training Jiu Jitsu, or hanging out at my secret spot at the beach in Santa Cruz.
